Position Overview:
Smithfield Foods is seeking a Maintenance Supervisor to lead maintenance operations on either the 1st or 2nd shift at its Denison, Iowa facility. This position is responsible for supervising maintenance personnel, ensuring equipment reliability, driving preventive and predictive maintenance programs, and supporting safe, efficient production operations. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong troubleshooting skills and experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and lead Maintenance Mechanics and Electricians during assigned shift.
- Plan, schedule, and oversee preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities.
- Coordinate maintenance priorities with Production to maximize equipment uptime and operational efficiency.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and automation-related equipment issues.
- Ensure maintenance work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company policies and USDA regulations.
- Monitor equipment performance, maintenance KPIs, and reliability metrics to identify improvement opportunities.
- Coach, mentor, and develop maintenance team members while promoting accountability and continuous learning.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and documentation within the CMMS.
- Support TPM (Total Productive Maintenance), continuous improvement, and root cause analysis initiatives.
- Promote a strong safety culture by ensuring compliance with OSHA, company, and food safety standards.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent maintenance leadership experience.
- Previous leadership experience supervising, coaching, or mentoring maintenance teams in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills involving industrial equipment.
- Experience with preventive, predictive, and reliability-centered maintenance programs.
- Working knowledge of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) principles.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and planning skills.
- Ability to work onsite in Denison, Iowa on either 1st or 2nd shift.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with ammonia refrigeration systems.
- Boiler system maintenance experience.
- PLC troubleshooting and industrial automation knowledge.
- Electrical maintenance background in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience within food manufacturing, meat processing, or other USDA-regulated facilities.
